Privacy Policy for Youtube Blur
This is a privacy policy for a tool that respects your privacy.
The short version: We collect nothing. We store nothing online. We track nothing.
This extension was built to protect your focus, not to harvest your information.
1. Data We Don't Collect
We do not collect, store, transmit, or have access to any of your personal information. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Your browsing history
- Your YouTube watch history or account information
- Your IP address
- Your email address
- Any form of analytics or usage data
The extension's code is self-contained and does not communicate with any external servers.
2. Data We Store (Locally)
The only piece of data this extension stores is its own state: whether it is currently "Enabled" or "Disabled."
This single setting is saved locally on your computer using Chrome's standard chrome.storage.local API. It never leaves your device and is not sent to us or any third party. Its only purpose is to remember your on/off preference when you close and reopen your browser.
3. Permissions Explained
The extension requests a few permissions to do its job. Here is exactly why we need them:
- storage:
- Why we need it: To save the extension's on/off setting on your local device.
- tabs:
- Why we need it: To detect when you are on a YouTube page and to automatically refresh that page when you toggle the extension. This ensures the blur/block features are applied or removed cleanly. It is also used to identify and redirect YouTube Shorts URLs.
- activeTab:
- Why we need it: This allows the extension to perform its primary functions (blurring thumbnails, hiding Shorts) on the YouTube page you are currently viewing when you enable it.
- Host Permissions (*.youtube.com, *.youtu.be, *.ytimg.com):
- Why we need it: This strictly limits the extension's operation to YouTube and its related domains (like the image server for thumbnails). It cannot run on or interact with any other website.
4. Third-Party Services
This extension makes zero external network requests. It does not use any third-party analytics, advertising platforms, or tracking scripts. All the code required to run the extension is included in the initial download.
5. Changes to This Policy
If this policy is ever updated, we will detail the changes here. However, our core principle of not collecting your personal data will never change.
6. Contact
If you have any questions about this privacy policy, please contact us at the email mentioned on the extension page on Google Web Store.
